The Offer Primed for 2015 Bendigo Cup

October 27th, 2015

The Offer has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time, and trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident the six-year-old is in the right condition for success in Wednesday’s featured 2015 Bendigo Cup (2400m).

The Offer began his racing career under the guidance of leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien before transferring the care of Waterhouse in 2013, and has posted an impressive total of seven wins and five minors through 26 competitive starts.

Having boxed on for a credible fourth in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2400m) last time out on October 17th, Waterhouse told Racing Victoria the 2015 Melbourne Cup remains the major target for the Montjeu gelding this time and is confident the 2015 Bendigo Cup will figure as an ideal final point of call and tune-up on Wednesday.

“He’s a rough chance, probably about a 66-1 chance (in the Melbourne Cup),” Waterhouse said.

“He’s going to Bendigo on Wednesday and that will really top him off.

“He’s got more chance of picking up the $300,000 at Bendigo than the $6-point-whatever million here at Flemington.

“I wanted him to have a run beforehand and I thought Bendigo was a slightly softer option for him.”

Undoubtedly returning to racing in career-best form to date during the 2014 Autumn Carnival, The Offer finished third in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) before taking out each of the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m), Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) and Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) in succession.

Etching into outright favouritism for the 2014 Melbourne Cup, The Offer returned in spring for fifth in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) but failed to make anything of an impact through his next three starts and missed his major target through a minor ailment.

Returning this time for success in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m), The Offer progressed to fifth place finishes in each of the Listed Wyong Cup (2080m) and Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2300m) leading into his most recent effort for fourth.

Rated an $81 chance to win the Melbourne Cup, The Offer is currently available at 2015 Bendigo Cup odds of $8 for success with leading online bookie
